The Taranaki Region is the westernmost area of the North Island. Mount Taranaki also referred to Mount Egmont is the defining feature in the region, piercing the landscape’s skyline from all directions. The population of the Taranaki Region is 105,000, is 2.6% of the total population and is the tenth largest region in size in New Zealand. The climate is generally warm and temperate, wet, with temperatures ranging between 12-22 Celsius in the summer months, and 5-15 Celsius during the winter months.
